Retail solutions across the spectrum – NRF 2015

  • By Mark Hudson

Bill McBeath, Chief Research Officer at ChainLinkResearch recently included CBX Software in his coverage of retail solutions at the 2015 NRF Big Show in New York this January.  “NRF brought retail solutions at all levels of the maturity spectrum. Omni-channel solutions are getting quite mature, though much work remains. Exciting new developments in Internet-of-Things and mobile commerce abound, but are at early stages,” McBeath noted.

Below is an excerpt of the report which mentions CBX Software in the PLM and Sourcing category. Along with a full rebranding, CBX (formerly Core Solutions) has rapidly expanded its customer based in 2014. The fruits of a dedicated investment into architecting a true multi-tenant cloud platform have paid off as all current customers are now on the CBX Cloud. 2015 should be another exciting year of growth for CBX, which is expanding its reach into North America and Europe with new customers wins such as Lamps Plus, El Corte Ingles, Pepkor and others.

At NRF, we invariably find the full spectrum of maturity for retail solutions—everything from brand new ideas that are just testing the water and figuring out what is going to work, to tried and true approaches that have been around for literally decades. I met with dozens of solution providers and wanted to highlight a few. I roughly group them into four categories:

  • Internet-of-Things for Retail
  • Retail Suites Integrating Across Omni-channels
  • PLM and Sourcing
  • Analytics and Rules-based Engines

Brand manufacturers and private label retailers need systems to help them make concepts a reality, managing the development, sourcing, and delivery. CBX Software is one solution that addressed that need.

CBX Software provides a platform combining PLM with sourcing and procurement, extending from concept through to actual delivery and payment. They refer to it as “Total Sourcing Management.” The software has a critical path management tool that is able to orchestrate end-to-end processes across planning, design, sourcing, sample management, commitment and order management, production (WIP tracking), pre-shipment inspection, shipment, and payment. Recognizing that there are multiple ways to specify and source across product categories, the platform supports anything from a simple illustration or written description to a full blown BOM with construction details and a formal RFQ process. Their sweet spot is clients that have substantial amounts of private label or exclusive label products, who value end-to-end process integration. CBX customers include department stores, super/hyper-markets, and a range of specialty retailers and brand manufacturers in sectors such as apparel, furniture/home furnishing, DIY and general merchandise. Retail and manufacturing brands on the CBX platform include: Safeway, Cortefiel, Pepkor, El Corte Ingles, Lamps Plus, Lidl, Berkshire Blanket, Conforama, Kmart/Target Australia, and others.
